One of our clients, a recognized leader in Automated Factory Solutions for the industrial automation and packaging industry, is looking for a highly experienced Engineering Director to lead their fast-growing, dynamic team in the greater Toronto area.

This candidate has 10+ years of hands-on industrial automation expertise in machine design, controls integration, and project management. This critical position reports to the executive team and leads a design team driving strategy, innovation, and operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a multidisciplinary engineering team across mechanical, electrical, controls, and project disciplines.

  • Manage projects from concept to delivery, ensuring timely, budget-conscious, and high-quality execution.

  • Provide technical leadership in designing custom automation systems (conveyors, robotics, packaging).

  • Optimize engineering processes, standards, and documentation.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align solutions with customer needs and internal capabilities.

  • Mentor engineers, promoting innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Assess emerging technologies to maintain leadership in automation innovation.

  • Act as a key contact for complex projects, reviews, and escalations.

  • Support quoting and feasibility during pre-sales efforts.

  • Attend site meetings across North America as needed

Qualifications and Job Information

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering (Master’s preferred).

  • 10+ years in industrial automation, specializing in custom machine design and packaging systems.

  • Proven experience in leadership of cross-functional engineering teams.

  • Expertise in system integration, PLCs, motion control, and robotics.

  • Track record of delivering complex projects in fast-paced settings.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.

  • PMP certification and Ontario PE designation are assets.

  • PDM experience (preferred)
