Project: Electric Pressure Fryer – Commercial Foodservice Equipment

Engagement Type: Consulting / As-Needed Support

Duration: 0–6 months (project-based, intermittent hours)

Location: Southeast U.S. preferred (remote considered)

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer / Design Consultant with direct ownership of pressurized vessels or pressurized systems used in safety-critical products. While prior electric pressure fryer experience is highly desirable, candidates with strong experience designing other pressure-containing systems will also be considered.

This engagement supports modifications and improvements to an existing pressure fryer platform acquired through a recent acquisition. The work is not a clean-sheet design and will focus on evaluating, improving, and validating an existing pressure-containing system to ensure safety, compliance, and manufacturability.

This is a highly specialized, safety-critical consulting role with intermittent hours, based on project needs (not a steady 30 hours per week).

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject-matter expert for pressurized vessels and pressure-containing systems

  • Review and assess an existing pressure fryer design obtained through an acquisition

  • Recommend and implement design modifications and improvements related to pressure, temperature, sealing, and safety

  • Define and validate pressure boundaries, materials, wall thicknesses, seals, and safety mechanisms

  • Ensure design changes align with UL, NSF, or other applicable regulated-product standards

  • Support design-for-fabrication and manufacturability improvements

  • Identify risks, failure modes, and compliance gaps in the existing design

  • Provide technical guidance during prototype updates, testing, and iteration

  • Collaborate with product engineering and manufacturing teams as needed

Qualifications and Job Information

Required Qualifications

  • Direct, hands-on experience designing pressurized vessels or pressurized mechanical systems used in safety-critical, real-world applications

  • Experience owning pressure boundary design, material selection, sealing strategy, and safety features

  • Working knowledge of regulated product environments (UL, NSF, ASME, CE, or similar)

  • Proven ability to evaluate and improve existing designs, not just create new ones

  • Experience working in a consulting, contractor, or advisory capacity on short-term or project-based engagements

  • Ability to work independently and provide clear, practical technical recommendations

Preferred / Highly Relevant Experience

  • Direct electric pressure fryer or commercial foodservice equipment design experience

  • Background in commercial appliances, thermal systems, or pressure cooking equipment

  • Experience with stress analysis or FEA (helpful but not required)

  • Hands-on experience supporting prototype modifications and validation testing

  • Familiarity with legacy product evaluation or post-acquisition product integration

Engagement Details

  • Contract Length: 0–6 months (project-based)

  • Hours: Intermittent / variable, based on project needs

  • Location: Southeast U.S. preferred; remote candidates considered if highly qualified
