Our aerospace client, is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer responsible for managing the quality performance of the external supply base. This role focuses on direct engagement with suppliers to ensure components, materials, and services meet technical, quality, and delivery requirements. 

The Supplier Quality Engineer will lead supplier qualification, audits, corrective actions, and supplier development initiatives. This position plays a critical role in building scalable supplier quality processes while supporting production readiness and operational growth in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment. 


Key Responsibilities 

Supplier Evaluation, Selection, and Approval 

  • Lead the evaluation and qualification of new suppliers through capability assessments and quality system audits (remote and onsite). 

  • Support the development and maintenance of the Approved Supplier List (ASL). 

  • Partner with engineering and supply chain teams to ensure supplier readiness prior to production release. 

Supplier Development and Qualification 

  • Work closely with suppliers to improve manufacturing processes, quality performance, and delivery reliability. 

  • Evaluate supplier manufacturing controls, special processes, and inspection methods. 

  • Support supplier readiness for production through capability assessments and process validation. 

Supplier Performance Monitoring 

  • Establish and monitor supplier performance metrics such as PPM, on-time delivery, escapes, and responsiveness. 

  • Conduct regular supplier performance reviews and identify high-risk suppliers. 

  • Implement improvement plans and continuous improvement initiatives with key suppliers. 

Corrective Action & Root Cause Analysis 

  • Lead supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and ensure timely resolution of supplier quality issues. 

  • Facilitate root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions. 

  • Verify the effectiveness of corrective actions and provide onsite support when required. 

Quality Assurance & Incoming Quality Support 

  • Support receiving inspection and production teams in resolving supplier-related nonconformances. 

  • Coordinate supplier containment actions for defective or suspect materials. 

  • Drive rapid response to minimize production disruptions and protect production schedules. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Collaborate with supply chain on sourcing decisions, supplier risk assessments, and supplier contracts. 

  • Support engineering teams with supplier technical readiness and manufacturability concerns. 

  • Coordinate with internal quality teams responsible for documentation review and first article inspection (FAI). 

  • Mentor and support Quality Inspectors as needed. 

Qualifications and Job Information

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related technical field (or equivalent experience). 

  • 4–8+ years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, or supplier development. 

  • Experience conducting supplier audits and managing supplier corrective actions. 

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications. 

  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills. 

  • Experience working in aerospace, defense, automotive, or other regulated manufacturing environments. 

  • Familiarity with quality management systems such as AS9100 or ISO 9001. 

  • ASQ certification (CQE, CQA, or similar) preferred. 


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience supporting production ramp-up or new manufacturing environments. 

  • Knowledge of supplier development and advanced manufacturing processes. 

  • Familiarity with aerospace components and precision manufacturing supply chains.
